Once your community has decided to build a playground, you'll need to choose a name for it - the first step in creating the identity so crucial to "marketing" the idea to your community. Then you must gear up for the most important part: fundraising. Although it takes a lot of hard work and dedication, the experience can prove to be very rewarding in the end. Here are a few of the almost limitless ideas for raising funds for a community built project.
- Hold a contest for the design of the official project t-shirt, which will be sold as a fund-raiser.
- Display a drawing of the proposed playground at businesses, schools, and post offices, and include the drawing in press releases to local media to publicize the idea.
- Solicit civic groups, service organizations, local merchants, businesses, the National Guard, churches, fraternities and sororities, families, and individuals not only for financial support but also for equipment, food, and manpower contributions.
- Hold fundraising picnics and dinners, and solicit stores for donations of food to be sold at these events, as well as to feed volunteers during construction.
